Summary: Long live all the magic we made.
Notes: This vid wouldn't have been possible without [personal profile] silly_cleo - not only did she find the song, she also spent what amounted to literally hours making spreadsheets to help me with the structure! Huge thanks also to [personal profile] carawj for support and viewing of multiple drafts! And thanks to everyone who gave encouragement and suggestions throughout! :)

So having watched the vid another couple of times, I feel like I should be able to come up with more concrete comment than the kind of broken-hearted keening I had to offer after the premieres show? To get the obvious out of the way, I love this vid: I love the warmth and heart of it and how clear your love for this whole universe is. But after some thought, what I think makes the vid as amazing as it it is - the tears, the keening! - is the way you get to the key notion expressed in the song, we will be remembered. Star Trek has that beautiful, brain-expanding dichotomy of being a history of the future, and yet, part of our own history: we have plaques in our world commemorating the little towns James T. Kirk and Montgomery Scott will be born in; we have that famous detail about Nichelle Nichols being asked to carry on as Uhura by Martin Luther King Jnr; we have iPads and 3D printers because of inventors who grew up on Star Trek; we have the space shuttle Enterprise, named after the Enterprise-D, and the Enterprise NX-01, named after the space shuttle Enterprise. That's my favourite thing about Star Trek, and that's what this vid evokes for me: that hand by hand, person by person, this is the world that we will build. That moment where Scotty and Kirk becomes Scotty and Data, on "the end of a decade but the start of an age" - that shift into the future that is at once thirty years and a century gave me chills. And it's just a toast, a little bit of kindness between the two of them, because the great history of the future was as much a history of shared drinks and cosplay and dancing and romance and drunken sing-songs of Jerusalem as it was a history of great deeds and ships called Enterprise. That's what shines so clear and bright in this vid. Thank you, my friend.

This is a fantastic meeting of song and source; I love the way you loop through all the incarnations and weave them in and around each other. So many great moments and characters, the love between the members of the various crews as a reflection of the fans' love of the franchise. Bravo!

Oh jeebus. I was okay until Tasha. "Tell them my name"

I mean to watch it again to catch the nifty subtleties I missed the first time but I think I'll need to wait a bit while my feels settle again...

Right. So I knew that I wasn't going to make it thought that without crying. I did make it to the DS9 section though.

This is my childhood, and growing up, and being part of something, and it's perfect.

so very, very happy-making. this lives in the pure wonder and love that is the trek-verse, and that has been a thread through my entire life. my father let me stay up beyond my bed-time to watch the original trek airings because he hoped it would inspire me to be a scientist. i didn't become that sort of scientist, but wasn't it cool he saw the value of the vision of it?

thank you for a beautiful vid, in every sense of the word.

Let me just finish off this box of kleenex here...

*sniffles*

Okay then. <3 I was going "Oh, I see, Rand is us the fangirls, and yes, all right, Spock/McCoy, I ship that," and then somewhere into the TNG or DS9 section I realized what you were doing with the characters (an A/B moment, then a B/C, then C/D, D/E...) and I loved it. I may have clutched my heart at "I had the time of my life fighting dragons with you" with Seven and Naomi--and then you wrapped it back around to older Rand and I punched the air. And then you hit us with the Best Moments Of section and I lost it. By the time we're telling our children to remember Tasha, I was bawling.

This is my Star Trek. I was struck by how many small character interactions the show had, and that you captured--the big friendships like Dax and Sisko, for example, but then the smaller ones I'd forgotten about like Neelix and Naomi sharing a drink.

Hell, you even made me have nu!Trek feelings, and that mindmeld with Nimoy and nu!Kurk had probably twice the kick it did in the theatre for me, coming after all of these moments of so much love and Trek.

I love this thing. My heart.

Oh my God, this vid is amazing. I'm weeping tears of joy. There's so much in this vid. The women -- making us central instead of marginal, all the way through. All of the moments of emotion, embrace, emotional connection. The wonder of it all. Data pouring a drink for Scotty OMG. And then aged Spock putting his fingers on new Kirk to give him a glimpse of who they are to each other --!

Just extraordinary.

Okay. I've watched this three times already, and it is love all the way through, but every time we get to "the end of a decade, the start of an age" I turn into blubbering goo for the entire rest of the vid. Three times now. The continuity, the warmth, the threads running up through all of them. The friendships and the drinks and Odo and Quark smirking to "rule the world", and every moment of "bring on the pretenders", and okay, DS9 breaks me every time, but then Spock Prime with "tell them how I hope they shine" and just ...

It's like hope and joy and a continuity towards a future that doesn't exist yet and has existed since 1966. This vid is the perfect thing, and I thank you for it.

More coherently, the structure of this vid is brilliant. The chain of handoffs from one character to another across eras is really impressive and effective.

Thank you for so much for creating this gem of a vid and sharing it. It would appear as though, based on the feelings generated after watching this vid, that Star Trek is still my first true love when it comes to fandom and this vid was an utter joy to watch :).
